Feeling the chill? Here are a few ways to keep your hair healthy this winter!

Winter has well and truly set in these past few weeks. There’s a chill in the air and the mornings are frosty. Winter is a great time to grow out your hair and get a colour change. But the cold weather can also cause hair damage and frizz. Not only does the cold dry out your skin, but it can also dry out your scalp and hair and moisture from the rain and fog can cause your hair to frizz and your styled locks to fall apart!

So here are a few easy tips to keep your hair healthy, and styled over winter.

1. Turn down the heat

We know, mornings are cold and there is nothing better than stepping into a nice, hot shower. But the temperature shock, coupled with the hot water can cause damage to your hair and dry out your scalp. For the days when you don’t need to shampoo your hair, protect it with a shower cap, so you can have a nice hot shower without causing any damage!

This also applies to heaters and air-conditioners in your house and office. Keep the heat to a minimum to avoid drying out your hair too much. A heating temperature between 22 – 24 degrees is ideal.

2. Consider your winter style

There’s nothing worse than spending ages on your hairstyle, only for it to fall apart due to rain and wind. Not only that, but your hair can be damaged by the cold wind which can freeze the ends of your hair and cause breakage. Consider wrapping your hair up into a scarf or a hat, or wearing it in braids to keep it all protected. Let your hair down when the sun is shining again!

3. Oils and conditioning
You might find your hair needing some extra moisture over winter. This can be easily fixed by applying some hair oils and conditioning treatment to your hair. Oils such as Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Oil. To give you hair an extra boost, you should try a leave-in conditioner, like the KEVIN.MURPHY UN.TANGLED Leave-In Conditioner, with our satin sleep cap for an easy, overnight moisture boost!

4. Embrace the air-dry
If you have the time, you should stick to air-drying your hair rather than blowdrying. The heat from the blow drier can cause your scalp and hair to become dry, couple that with winter and you have the perfect recipe for hair breakage and damage. Try opting for air drying or use a protective spray if you need to blow-dry. If you want to get your hair dried quicker without any heat tools, you should try our microfibre drying turban!

5. Stay Hydrated
A single strand of hair is made up of 25% water, crazy right?! So it’s so important that you stay hydrated to ensure your hair retains its health and moisture. It also helps encourage hair growth, so drink up!

So there you have it, a few easy ways to keep your hair healthy and hydrated this winter. Don’t forget to rug up and enjoy a hot chocolate every now and then too!
